Abstract

This paper explores the strengths and weaknesses of Nadira, a central character in Daizal R. Samad’s The Mirror Tells Its Tale, through the metaphor of a warrior with cracked armour. The study examines how Nadira’s courage, resilience, emotional vulnerability, and personal struggles shape her identity and influence her responses to challenging circumstances. While her strength enables her to confront difficulties and maintain a sense of self, her weaknesses reveal the emotional conflicts and insecurities that complicate her journey. The metaphor of cracked armour highlights the contrast between outward strength and inner fragility, suggesting that vulnerability is an essential part of human experience rather than a sign of defeat. Through a character-centred literary analysis, this paper seeks to understand Nadira as a complex individual whose strengths and limitations contribute to her psychological depth and personal development. The study also considers how her character reflects broader themes of resilience, identity, emotional conflict, and the struggle to reconcile personal vulnerability with the expectations of strength. Ultimately, Nadira emerges as a multifaceted character whose imperfections make her struggles meaningful and her strength profoundly human.
