Abstract

Aim & Introduction: The aim of the study was to epidemiologically characterize the population treated at our orthopedic clinic with a diagnosis of septic arthritis of the hip and to evaluate the results from the treatment instituted.


Material & Methods: Thirty patients each of with septic arthritis were included in this study. The case study was carried out in the Departments of Orthopaedics, Chennai Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India


Results: In the present study, 20% patients were immune-compromised & 93.3 % culture was positive. In this study, 10 patient need to change empirical antibiotics & intensive care unit.


Conclusion: Septic arthritis is related with morbidity and mortality. These results highlight the importance of obtaining cultures before starting any treatment.
