Effect of herbal plants on human cancer cell lines using cell based models.

Abstract

Purpose: 

 To study the effect of herbal drugs namely Punica granatum and Curcuma longa  on human cancer cell lines A549, DU145 and MCF-7 using the cell based models.

Method :

MTT and trypan blue assay were used to study the anticancer effect of the herbal drugs Punica granatum and Curcuma longa on the cell lines A549, DU145 and MCF-7.

Results  :

The IC50 value of P.granatum was more for the cell line A549 and the IC50 value of C.longa was more for DU145 and MCF-7 cell lines.

Conclusion :

P. granatum was more active drug for A549 cell line and C.longa was more active for the other two cell lines DU145 and MCF-7.
