Abstract

Objective:  Evaluation of in-vitro antioxidant activity and preliminary phytochemical standardization of Leucas linifolia and Clerodendrum multiflorum Linn.

Material and method: Preliminary Phytochemical analysis, fluorescence analysis, estimation of total phenolic content and total flavonoids content was carried out as a part of standardisation of Leucas linifolia and Clerodendrum multiflorum Linn. Free radical scavenging activity was also studied using DPPH method.

Results: Preliminary Phytochemical investigation showed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, tannins, volatile oils in various extracts of Leucas linifolia and Clerodendrum multiflorum. Total phenolic content and total flavonoids content for Leucas linifolia and Clerodendrum multiflorum  was found to be  79.65 µg/mg, 54.88 µg/mg, 75.28 µg/mg, 44.9 µg/mg, 7.56 µg/mg, 9.23 µg/mg, 7.11 µg/mg, 8.56 µg/mg in methanolic and ethyl acetate extract respectively.

Conclusion: The results indicate the methanolic extract of Leucas linifolia and Clerodendrum multiflorum exhibited good DPPH radical scavenging activity as compare to standard.
